The DJ Equipment

The Main Source

Almost every DJ now uses something called a "Controller." These have mostly replaced turntables for mobiles and club venues. They are small and lighter, which makes them easy to carry and takes up less space. Turntables are still very much used, these are just easier to travel with.

Long gone are the days of record crates and CD cases. All music now is now played using an MP3 audio file stored on a laptop computer or external hard drive for extended storage space. Just think of it, any DJ can have literally over 100,000 songs at the touch of a finger.

Using a special software created for DJs called "Serato". Music can be mixed or simply crossfaded like it always has been. Now just using virtual turntables on a screen and touch-sensitive platters.

The Sound

Speakers have advanced a lot.

To further save on space and less equipment to bring. Standard Full-range speakers now are self-powered and have a built-in Amplifier that is dedicated and custom tuned to each one. No more need to bring a very heavy separate Amplifier to power them. And they are so much lighter!

Speaker cabinets used to be made of solid wood, which made them extremely heavy. Now they are made of a type of plastic. And even with the speaker, the built-in AMP, and other electronics contained inside, they are still very light.

Some of these speakers now have Bluetooth built into them. This can come in handy when you have an event where you need to have a separate speaker placed too far away from the main setup of the DJ area that can not be reached by running cable or even visible. Like where the ceremony is compared to where the reception is.

The DJ can simply connect their phone for limited music use. Then simply unplug the speaker and move it when done. It is even possible to have a wireless mic system connected at the same time as the smartphone with multiple inputs on the back.

An additional safety feature of having each speaker self-powered is if one goes out for any reason you can still get by with the other. As they are not dependent on each other.

The Sound Pt.2

Do you need more BASS?

For when you really want to bring the club to your party. Add a subwoofer to your mobile DJ package. These speakers are specifically designed to create nothing but BOOM!!! These can range from a 12", 15" to 18" single speaker like the one you see below made by Samson.

These speakers also share some of the same portable technology as the others. They too also are self-powered with built-in Amplifiers. But the cabinets are still made of solid wood on these. And are not light.

If you really want to crank up the sound at your next event or party, add one of these. A cable is simply looped out of the main speaker into the inputs on the back.

Add Some Color

Give the party even more life with some lighting effects and a fog machine.

Add some color to the floor and walls with just even one lighting effect. Or go crazy and add even more like the image below.

Now if you really want to make it an awesome dance party, add a fog machine too. With just one of these spraying a little mist in the air will make everything come alive so much more. You will be able to see the rays of light and color cutting through the air.
